Our Mission

IRIZE strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding menstrual health and increase access to menstual products on the UW Tacoma campus.

Goals

Raise Awareness of Menstrual Issues: IRIZE aims to increase awareness of menstrual health issues prevalent on the UW Tacoma campus. This involves conducting educational campaigns, workshops, and events to educate students, faculty, and staff about the challenges individuals face regarding menstrual health, including access to products, menstrual hygiene management, and the impact of societal stigma.

Organize Donation Drives for Menstrual Products: IRIZE will organize donation drives to collect a diverse selection of menstrual products, including pads, tampons, menstrual cups, and period underwear. These drives will aim to gather donations from students, faculty, local businesses, and community members to expand the availability of free or low-cost menstrual products on campus. Additionally, IRIZE will work to ensure that donated products are inclusive of diverse needs, such as offering options for different absorbencies and catering to individuals with specific preferences or requirements.

Host Menstrual Equity Events: IRIZE will host menstrual equity events designed to destigmatize periods, foster open dialogue, and promote inclusivity. These events may include panel discussions, film screenings, art exhibits, and interactive workshops aimed at challenging misconceptions surrounding menstruation, advocating for menstrual equity policies, and celebrating menstrual health as a natural aspect of human biology. By creating a supportive and empowering environment, these events will encourage individuals to feel more comfortable discussing menstrual issues and seeking support when needed.

Advocate for Institutional Support: IRIZE will advocate for institutional support from the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) to ensure that menstrual products are funded and readily accessible on campus. This includes lobbying for the inclusion of menstrual products in campus budgets, advocating for the installation of free product dispensers in restrooms, and working with campus administration to establish designated safe spaces where students can discuss menstrual issues openly and seek support from trained professionals. Additionally, IRIZE will collaborate with student government, faculty, and staff to develop policies and initiatives that prioritize menstrual equity and support the diverse needs of the campus community.
